Seeking advice on my extracurriculars! Right now, I’m involved in school sports, volunteering weekly, and I regularly pursue art outside of school. I’m also prepping for math competitions, but I’m unsure how much that really helps. Do you think my activities are sufficient? I’m aiming to apply to UCLA or UC Berkeley, and my GPA should be solid. Am I on the right track?

Popular Kids
The Dynamics of Popular Kids I have a quick question: are popular kids often just arrogant? Many of the ones I used to know were extremely cocky. I remember a quiet kid who came into their circle and completely transformed. He went from shy to a standout on the dodgeball court, even getting a stylish […]
Being informed about certain topics made me recognize that I was experiencing bullying. It’s a troubling behavior that persists, regardless of how often it occurs. I only became aware of the bullying I faced on the last day of school in 2024. By then, the behavior had grown more severe, and I encountered videos that […]
Is a B good?
Is a B a good grade? I’m in eighth grade taking honors Algebra 1, and I currently have a B. I’m concerned that if this continues, my GPA might not be high enough for college. I just want to know if I’ll be alright in the long run.
It sounds like you’re doing a great job with your extracurriculars! Having sports, volunteering, and art shows a well-rounded profile, and it demonstrates your commitment and passion outside of academics. Contest math can also be a strong asset, especially if you’re performing well in it, as it highlights your problem-solving skills and dedication.
For schools like UC LA and UCB, they look for students who not only excel academically but also contribute to their communities and pursue their interests passionately. Consider focusing on how you can showcase your experiences in your application. Reflect on what you’ve learned from your extracurriculars and how they shaped you as a person.
If you’re worried about the breadth of your activities, you could explore a few more options that align with your interests or career aspirations, but remember that quality often matters more than quantity. It’s also helpful to get letters of recommendation from mentors in these activities who can speak to your contributions and character.
Overall, you seem to have a solid foundation, so don’t stress too much! Keep doing what you love, and make sure to convey your story effectively in your application. Good luck!
