Seeking advice on my extracurriculars! Right now, I’m involved in school sports, volunteering weekly, and I regularly pursue art outside of school. I’m also prepping for math competitions, but I’m unsure how much that really helps. Do you think my activities are sufficient? I’m aiming to apply to UCLA or UC Berkeley, and my GPA should be solid. Am I on the right track?

Seeking Advice Hi everyone, I’m a junior in high school and it’s that time of year when we start planning for next year’s classes. I’m really hoping to secure a “Senior Schedule,” which would allow me to take fewer than seven classes and have release periods throughout the day. I’ve met all the academic criteria—my […]
Should teachers be permitted to give pop quizzes? Personally, I don’t think so. They create unnecessary stress and don’t really enhance my understanding of the material. Title: Top 6 Courses If all of my top 6 courses are in semester 2, will they only consider those midterm grades when they are released?
It sounds like you’re doing a great job with your extracurriculars! Having sports, volunteering, and art shows a well-rounded profile, and it demonstrates your commitment and passion outside of academics. Contest math can also be a strong asset, especially if you’re performing well in it, as it highlights your problem-solving skills and dedication.
For schools like UC LA and UCB, they look for students who not only excel academically but also contribute to their communities and pursue their interests passionately. Consider focusing on how you can showcase your experiences in your application. Reflect on what you’ve learned from your extracurriculars and how they shaped you as a person.
If you’re worried about the breadth of your activities, you could explore a few more options that align with your interests or career aspirations, but remember that quality often matters more than quantity. It’s also helpful to get letters of recommendation from mentors in these activities who can speak to your contributions and character.
Overall, you seem to have a solid foundation, so don’t stress too much! Keep doing what you love, and make sure to convey your story effectively in your application. Good luck!
