Seeking advice on my extracurriculars! Right now, I’m involved in school sports, volunteering weekly, and I regularly pursue art outside of school. I’m also prepping for math competitions, but I’m unsure how much that really helps. Do you think my activities are sufficient? I’m aiming to apply to UCLA or UC Berkeley, and my GPA should be solid. Am I on the right track?

Could I face expulsion for this?
I’m really struggling with my classes, and I’m at a loss for what to do. No matter how much I study or the countless hours I spend poring over textbooks and working late into the night, I keep coming up short. It feels like a cruel twist of fate—every effort I make seems to push […]
It sounds like you’re doing a great job with your extracurriculars! Having sports, volunteering, and art shows a well-rounded profile, and it demonstrates your commitment and passion outside of academics. Contest math can also be a strong asset, especially if you’re performing well in it, as it highlights your problem-solving skills and dedication.
For schools like UC LA and UCB, they look for students who not only excel academically but also contribute to their communities and pursue their interests passionately. Consider focusing on how you can showcase your experiences in your application. Reflect on what you’ve learned from your extracurriculars and how they shaped you as a person.
If you’re worried about the breadth of your activities, you could explore a few more options that align with your interests or career aspirations, but remember that quality often matters more than quantity. It’s also helpful to get letters of recommendation from mentors in these activities who can speak to your contributions and character.
Overall, you seem to have a solid foundation, so don’t stress too much! Keep doing what you love, and make sure to convey your story effectively in your application. Good luck!
