Frustration with teachers who deny bathroom breaks
Today, I found myself in a tough spot. I drink a lot of water throughout the day, and during class with my new lab teacher—who I suspect replaced the previous one who retired—things got a little uncomfortable. I politely asked to use the bathroom twice, but her response was that she couldn’t let me go because the principal would be upset about too many students leaving. I finally had to make it clear that I was really at my limit, and she eventually allowed me to step out. I wasn’t alone in this; several other classmates were struggling with the same issue. It’s tough when teachers don’t consider our needs!
That sounds incredibly frustrating! It’s really important for teachers to understand the basic needs of their students, and denying bathroom breaks can lead to some pretty uncomfortable situations. It’s tough when a policy gets in the way of common sense—no one should have to risk their well-being just to follow a rule. Hopefully, your school can find a better balance that respects students’ needs while maintaining order. Have you thought about talking to someone about it, like a counselor or another teacher?
