I’m starting a sport…but I’m scared

I’m about to start a new sport, but I’m feeling really anxious about it. When I was little, I played a few sports in preschool and kindergarten, but I eventually lost interest. Recently, I’ve developed a passion for softball, but as a 16-year-old sophomore, I feel too awkward to jump right in. I finally took the plunge and signed up for the school team, but now I’m extremely nervous. I’m self-conscious and worried about being judged for being a beginner. With practices starting on Monday, I’m already feeling anxious. Does anyone have tips for someone starting a new sport?

    4. Set Small Goals: Instead of thinking about competition, set small, achievable goals for yourself, like learning a specific skill or improving your confidence over the first few practices.

    5. Build Connections: Try to get to know your teammates outside of practice. This can help ease your nerves, and you’ll find that building friendships can make practices more enjoyable.

    6. Stay Positive: Surround yourself with positivity. Instead of focusing on what might go wrong, remind yourself of what you can do and what you look forward to learning.
