Is national honours that worth it

Are national honors really worth it?

I’m considering applying for national honors, but I’ve heard mixed reviews. It seems like it doesn’t carry much weight, the process can be lengthy, and the costs can add up. What are your thoughts on this? Also, do you know if scholarships are available in Europe? I’m not looking to study in the US due to the challenges of obtaining a visa and the high expenses. Europe seems like the better option for me.

  1. Deciding whether to pursue national honours really depends on your personal goals and circumstances. Here are a few points to consider:

    1. Value of National Honours: National honours can be a significant recognition of your achievements and contributions to society, depending on the country and the specific honours in question. However, if you feel that the process is lengthy or doesn’t necessarily lead to tangible benefits, it might not be worth the time and effort for you.

    2. Networking Opportunities: Even if the honours themselves don’t seem impressive, the networking opportunities they provide can be valuable. You might connect with influential people or organizations that could impact your future career.

    3. Scholarships in Europe: Yes, many European countries offer scholarships for international students, and there are plenty of options—some specific to countries and others that are pan-European. Notably, programs like Erasmus+ provide significant funding for study abroad opportunities.

    4. Cost and Visa Issues: It’s true that studying in the U.S. can be particularly expensive and challenging in terms of visas. Europe might offer more affordable options, especially if you consider countries where tuition fees are lower for international students, or even free in some cases.

Ultimately, assess what aligns more with your career aspirations and personal values. If you think national honours won’t significantly benefit you, and your focus is on studying in Europe, it might be better to invest your time and resources in exploring those opportunities instead. Good luck!
