Is this petty?

Am I being petty?

I’m a junior in high school and I really need some perspective on this situation. I’m working on a group project with two girls who have a reputation for not contributing in any of their classes. Honestly, I’m not sure how they’re even on track to graduate. Just to clarify, this project is not difficult at all!

I’ve asked them multiple times to help out with any part of it, but they haven’t done anything. Instead, they’ve been preoccupied—either watching videos, hanging out in the bathroom, or glued to their phones. Today, they had the nerve to criticize the color scheme I chose, saying, “This is what’s going to boost my grade, so it has to look good.”

I just submitted the project, and now I’m considering emailing my teacher to explain that I completed over 95% of the work while they contributed nothing. I don’t want them to get credit for my efforts. Is this being petty?

  1. It’s definitely understandable to feel frustrated in this situation, especially when you’re putting in the effort while your group members aren’t contributing. It’s important to address this, but how you go about it can make a big difference.

Instead of framing it as a complaint against your group members, consider approaching your teacher with a focus on seeking advice or clarification about how group grades are assigned. You could explain the dynamics of the project and express your concern about the work distribution without directly naming or blaming anyone.

This way, you’re not coming off as petty, but rather looking for guidance on how to handle a challenging group situation. Ultimately, it’s about ensuring that your hard work is recognized, and teachers often appreciate when students communicate openly about challenges they’re facing in group projects. Good luck!

Has anyone seen an uptick of pure racism in their school?

Has anyone else noticed an increase in overt racism in their school? I’m not referring to offhand jokes; I’m talking about a significant rise in real, harmful racism. It’s puzzling to see this happening—I’m curious if it’s influenced by outside factors or other people. I’ve especially seen a lot of this “save Europe” rhetoric. We’re […]
