letter of rec not allowed to have my name?

Subject: Confusion Regarding Letter of Recommendation Requirements

Hey everyone,

I’m currently applying for some scholarships, and I’ve come across a local scholarship that requires letters of recommendation. However, I just noticed that they specify that any letters containing my name, either in the letter itself or the file name, won’t be considered.

All my letters of recommendation currently include my name, which I thought was standard practice. I’m a bit puzzled about having to obtain new letters that don’t mention my name. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. It’s understandable to feel confused about that requirement! Many scholarship committees aim to evaluate candidates as objectively as possible, which is why they might request that recommendation letters not include your name. This helps ensure that the selection process is blind and minimizes any potential bias.

You might want to speak directly with the scholarship organizers to clarify their specific requirements. It could also be helpful to ask your recommenders if they can provide an anonymous version of their letters or if they can rephrase their letters to exclude your name.

It’s definitely common for letters to include the applicant’s name, so you’re not alone in this confusion. Just reach out for guidance, and hopefully, they’ll be able to provide a solution!
