Curious question! (Reposting because I forgot to add a flair) In American schools and some other educational systems worldwide, do they offer classes like Life Orientation (grades 4-12) and EMS and Technology (grades 7-9) that students are required to take before selecting their subjects in the higher grades (10-12)?

  1. It sounds like you’re curious about how different education systems handle subject requirements in middle and high school! In many American schools, students typically have a more flexible approach, where they can choose electives in addition to core subjects like math, science, and English. However, there are often required health and physical education classes that might serve a similar purpose to Life Orientation.

In other countries, like South Africa, Life Orientation is indeed a mandatory subject that covers various life skills, including personal development, citizenship, and career guidance, which can help students make more informed choices when selecting their high school subjects. EMS (Economic and Management Sciences) and Technology are also aimed at giving students foundational knowledge in entrepreneurship and practical skills before they specialize.

It would be interesting to hear how these subjects impact students’ readiness for the future in different countries! What’s your experience or perspective on this?
