Technical School Shop Help :’)

Need Advice on Technical School Shop Issues :’)

I’m really sorry if this isn’t the right place for this, but I’m feeling pretty lost and thought I’d reach out here as a last resort. I attend a technical school and recently chose a permanent shop. However, after just a few weeks, I’m realizing that I really dislike it. The stress it causes me is overwhelming, and I’ve even come home in tears a few times.

While there are some good aspects, I struggle to grasp a lot of what we’re learning. There’s another shop I was considering but didn’t pick, and now I’m seriously contemplating switching to it. The problem is that the other shop has some people I’m not fond of, and it has a reputation for being the “weird kid shop”—though I’ve always enjoyed the material they handle.

In contrast, the shop I’m currently in has amazing people, but I find the material frustrating. Plus, the thought of switching brings me a lot of anxiety. Both teachers in the shops like me, and I’m worried about hurting my friends’ feelings if I decide to switch (there are very few students in my current shop). I feel really stuck and dread going to school each week.

I apologize if this post seems out of place—I’m at a loss for what to do. I’m happy to clarify more details in the comments since I tend to ramble and might not have explained everything clearly. Thanks for reading!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a really tough situation, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed and stressed about it. Choosing a shop that aligns with your interests and strengths is important, especially since you want to enjoy your time at technical school.

Here are a few things to consider that might help you make your decision:

    1. Identify Your Priorities: Think about what matters most to you right now. Is it the material you’re learning, the people you’re with, or perhaps a combination of both? Making a list of pros and cons for each shop could also clarify your thoughts.

    2. Talk to Your Friends: You mentioned that you’re worried about hurting your friends’ feelings. It might help to discuss your feelings with them. They may be more understanding than you think and could offer support or even reconsider their own views about the shop.

    3. Explore the Other Shop: If possible, see if you can sit in on a class in the shop you’re considering switching to. This could give you a better feel for the environment and help ease some of your anxiety about making the switch.

    4. Talk to Your Teachers: Since both teachers have a good impression of you, you might want to have an open conversation with them about how you’re feeling. They may offer valuable insights or suggestions about how to navigate this situation.

    5. Listen to Yourself: Ultimately, you know yourself best. If the current shop is causing you significant stress and unhappiness, it may be worth considering the switch despite the social aspects. Your mental well-being is essential.

    6. Take Your Time: If you’re feeling really anxious, remember that you don’t have to rush into a decision. Give yourself some time to think it over and reflect on what you really want out of your experience in technical school.

No matter what you decide, remember that it’s okay to prioritize your own happiness and growth. Good luck, and I hope you find a path that feels right for you!
