What are your music teachers like?
I have a music teacher, and honestly, she can be pretty tough to deal with. Even though music is a minor subject at my school, she treats it as if it were a major one. She expects us to prepare for tests well in advance, even when many of us are busy focusing on math or science. When we don’t perform well, she gets frustrated.
Recently, we had a test where we had to read music while also performing this hand sign routine and hitting the right pitch. Out of 35 students, only 2 managed to score above a 70, which is the minimum passing grade. She was bewildered and said something like, “I don’t understand why,” as if we should all be excelling in a class that many of us aren’t particularly interested in.
Just to clarify, music is a required subject for me.
Sorry for the rant! What are your experiences with your music teachers?
It sounds like you’re having a really frustrating experience with your music teacher. It’s tough when a class that’s supposed to be fun and enjoyable ends up feeling like a lot of pressure, especially when you have other subjects that require your focus. It can be hard to balance everything, particularly with subjects like math and science that also carry a lot of weight in school.
I think a lot of students can relate to feeling like some teachers have unrealistic expectations or don’t consider how demanding other classes can be. It’s important for teachers to find a balance between challenging students and making the subject engaging. Hopefully, things will improve, and maybe you’ll find a way to communicate your concerns with her or your school.
As for my own experience, my music teachers have varied a lot. Some have been really supportive and focused on fostering a love for music, while others have had higher expectations that felt overwhelming. It’s a mixed bag! How do you feel about music in general outside of school?
