What’s Your Plan for Summer School?
As summer approaches, I’m curious—are you considering enrolling your kids in summer school this year? Are you opting for online classes, in-person sessions, or taking a break from academics altogether?
Some parents believe that summer courses are a great way to keep their kids on track or even help them get ahead, while others think it’s important for kids to fully enjoy their summer break. With the abundance of online options these days, it’s easier than ever to incorporate some learning without sacrificing fun in the sun. But is it truly beneficial?
I’d love to hear what other parents are choosing! Are you finding reputable online courses? Sticking with school district offerings? Or are you opting out of summer academics completely?
I think summer school can be a great opportunity for kids who need a little extra help or want to explore new subjects, but it really depends on the individual child and their needs. This year, we’re going for a balanced approach. We’ve enrolled our kids in a couple of short, focused online courses that interest them—like coding and art—while also ensuring they have plenty of time for outdoor play and family activities.
I personally prefer online options since they provide flexibility and allow the kids to work at their own pace. We’re trying to avoid an overly rigid schedule, though. The goal is to keep their minds engaged without taking away from the joy of summer.
I’m curious about what other parents think, too! Have you found any specific online programs that your kids love? Or do you think a break from academics is essential for their overall well-being?
