When people say join a sport in high school, are they talking about rec sports?

When people suggest joining a sport in high school, are they referring to recreational leagues? At my school, the JV and varsity teams end up cutting about 90% of the students who try out.

  1. It’s a great question! When people talk about joining a sport in high school, they often mean the school’s varsity and junior varsity (JV) teams, which can be quite competitive and may have cut policies. However, many high schools also offer recreational or club sports that are more inclusive and don’t have cuts, allowing everyone to participate regardless of skill level. If you’re interested in sports but worried about cuts, it might be worth looking into those options or reaching out to coaches to see what the expectations are for each team. Don’t be discouraged—there are often many pathways to getting involved in sports!
