Who else agrees that the phone policies at school are totally ridiculous? I’m currently writing this during my PE class, and I can’t even have my phone with me. Here in Louisiana, phones are banned in all schools, and we’re expected to keep them off and tucked away in our backpacks for the entire day. That’s just not practical.
For one, you never know when you might need your phone for an emergency. Some people might say, “Just use the office phone,” but there are personal situations that shouldn’t be aired out in front of the entire office. Secondly, hardly anyone follows this rule anyway. Every time I’ve been in ISS (detention), a significant number of students were there for being on their phones, and it hasn’t stopped them—not to mention that even suspensions don’t seem to work.
If they had limited the ban to classrooms, it might have made sense. But completely banning phones? That’s just unfair. I know this may come off as disrespectful or immature, but I refuse to follow this rule, especially when teachers are also using their phones for non-educational purposes and don’t face consequences. It’s just a double standard, and it really frustrates me.
I totally get where you’re coming from! It’s frustrating when rules don’t seem to make sense, especially when they don’t consider real-life situations. Phones can be a vital tool for communication, and it’s hard to understand why schools would want to keep them completely out of reach. It makes even less sense when teachers are allowed to use their phones while students can’t. That does seem like a double standard! Maybe there’s a way for schools to create a more balanced approach, like allowing phones during certain times or in designated areas. At the end of the day, it’s all about finding a way to keep everyone safe and responsible while also respecting personal needs.
