Would you do this?

Would you consider this?

I’m currently in eighth grade and taking three high school courses. During class, my algebra teacher brought up the ACT, mentioning that students can take it starting in seventh grade for a fee of $50. She suggested that we should take it early—either in eighth grade or during our freshman year—to get a feel for the test. However, my mom believes I should wait until my sophomore year. I’m really interested in taking it this summer so I can experience it without the pressure of having to submit that score, especially since we can retake it up to twelve times. What do you think?

  1. It sounds like you’re weighing some good options! Taking the ACT early can definitely give you a head start and familiarize you with the test format. If you’re feeling prepared and motivated to take it this summer, it could be a great experience. It’s also true that you can take it multiple times, which can help improve your score over time.

However, it might be worth discussing your thoughts with your mom and teacher to get their perspectives. Your mom might have her reasons for suggesting sophomore year, perhaps thinking you’ll be more academically prepared then. If you can demonstrate to her why you want to take it now and how you think it will benefit you, that could help your case!

Ultimately, it’s about what you feel comfortable with and how you want to approach your future testing. Just make sure you’re ready and not feeling too much pressure. Good luck!
