High School Relationship Drama: Does This Guy Like Me?

Alright, here’s the deal. I’m a 13-year-old girl in 7th grade, and I’m involved in my school’s theater program along with my friend, a 14-year-old guy in 9th grade. Today, he awkwardly asked if I liked him. Caught off guard, I panicked and said no. He then left to rehearse a scene, though I knew he didn’t really have one. Ever since I told him no, he’s started sitting farther away from me, which has me thinking—am I overanalyzing this?

Earlier, he seemed a bit disappointed when he found out we were two grades apart, but when he learned I’m actually only a year younger, he looked happy. He always seems awkward around me, and I can’t tell if it’s because he likes me or he thinks I like him. I do have a bit of a crush on him, so what should I do? Any advice?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a confusing situation! First off, it’s totally normal to feel nervous about these kinds of interactions, especially at your age. The way he reacted after you said you didn’t like him could indicate that he’s feeling a bit awkward about the whole situation, but it’s hard to say for sure what he’s thinking.

Here are a few things you could consider doing:

    1. Give It Time: Sometimes, it just takes a little time for things to settle down. If he’s sitting farther away now, it could be because he’s feeling uncertain. After a little while, he might feel more comfortable and return to sitting closer.

    2. Be Friendly: Continue to be friendly and engage with him when you’re in theater together. Smile, chat, and include him in conversation. This might help him feel more at ease.

    3. Gauge His Reactions: Pay attention to how he acts around you. If he seems happy to see you, laughs at your jokes, or makes an effort to talk to you, those could be signs that he likes you.

    4. Consider a Casual Conversation: If you feel comfortable, you could bring up the topic again in a more relaxed way. Maybe something like, “Hey, I noticed you were sitting a bit farther away lately. Everything okay?” This could give him a chance to open up about what he’s feeling.

    5. Be Honest: If the moment feels right, you could eventually tell him that you were just nervous when he first asked and that you do like him. But only if you feel ready for that!

Relationships at your age can feel super complicated, but just remember that communication is key. Good luck!
