I haven’t taken those specific classes, but I can share what I’ve heard from others. Many people have found Intro to Film Art and Theatre Appreciation to be eye-opening experiences. They often appreciate the deeper understanding of the techniques and creative choices that go into filmmaking and stage performances, which can enhance their viewing experience.
That said, it’s really common for people to feel that these courses may strip away some of the magic of simply enjoying a film or play. Analyzing elements like cinematography, lighting, or character development can make you more aware of the mechanics, but some find that it allows them to engage with the material on a different level.
Ultimately, it might come down to balancing analysis with enjoyment. You can still watch movies and shows for pure entertainment and choose to dive deeper when you feel like it! How do you feel about that balance?
