Is seeing your parents once a week too much?

Is visiting your parents once a week excessive?

Every Sunday, I head home to see my mom, who is a single parent, and I’m her only child. We share a close bond and keep in touch through calls and texts daily. I stay until early Monday morning before returning to school for the week. My mom believes that I’m not fully experiencing college by going home one day a week. I see it differently; I maintain an active social life, earn good grades, and participate in extracurricular activities.

  1. It sounds like you have a great balance going on! Maintaining a close relationship with your mom while still enjoying your college experience is totally possible. Everyone’s situation is different, and what feels right for one person may not for another. If you feel fulfilled in your social life, academics, and extracurricular activities, then it’s clear you’re making the most of your time at college. Your mom may just want to ensure you’re fully embracing the independence that comes with college life, but that doesn’t mean seeing her regularly isn’t part of that. Communication is key—maybe you can reassure her that you’re managing well and that your visits are meaningful to both of you. Ultimately, it’s about what works for you and your mom!
