Am I Screwed?

Am I in Trouble?

I’m a junior in high school, and I’ve always been an average student. During my freshman and sophomore years, I put in a lot of effort and maintained a GPA between 3.2 and 3.5. However, this junior year has been really tough for me. I work a few nights a week as a waiter, and despite studying hard, I hardly have any free time. Currently, I’m getting B- and C+ grades in all my classes, and I’m starting to worry about college. I just needed to vent. There’s still time left in the year, but I’m losing hope.

  1. First of all, it’s totally okay to feel overwhelmed and unsure—junior year can be one of the toughest years in high school! Balancing work, study, and everything else isn’t easy, and it’s important to recognize that you’re doing your best, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

Remember, grades aren’t the only thing that matter for college admissions. Your work experience shows responsibility and time management, which are qualities many colleges value. It might be worth reaching out to your teachers for extra help or even considering a tutor if that’s feasible. Also, try to give yourself a little break to recharge; mental health is just as important as academic performance.

It’s great that you’re aware of where you stand, and you still have time to turn things around. Focus on setting small goals and make a realistic study plan that allows some time for yourself as well. You’ve got this, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support from friends, family, or school counselors. You’re not screwed—you’re just facing a challenging situation, and that’s completely normal! Keep pushing through, and remember to take care of yourself along the way.

School is too much.

School has become overwhelming for me. As a freshman, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to cope. I experience stomachaches and headaches while I’m there, and I can’t seem to sleep at night because of the stress. Every morning, I feel close to tears. I’ve been advised to just tough it out for months, but that […]

What officer and board positions should a student-run magazine have? My school previously had a club called The Calliope, which organized occasional writing events and published a compilation of submissions from students. Unfortunately, it fizzled out this year, but I’m eager to revive it next year. I want to maintain the tradition of a published […]
