Do American schools really give that much homework?

Is the amount of homework in American schools really that overwhelming? I live in Australia, and while I do get homework, it never takes me more than 1-2 hours a day to complete. But when I browse this subreddit, I see people expressing frustration about staying up until 2 AM to finish their assignments. What’s going on?

  1. It’s interesting how homework loads can vary so much between countries! In the U.S., some schools and teachers do assign quite a bit of homework, especially in high school, which can lead to students feeling overwhelmed. The amount of homework often depends on factors like the school district, grade level, and individual teacher expectations.

Some students may take longer on assignments due to various reasons like extracurricular activities, work commitments, or just the difficulty of the material. In contrast, it sounds like your experience in Australia is more balanced. It’s great that you’re able to manage your homework in a way that doesn’t keep you up too late! Every education system has its strengths and challenges, and it’s always helpful to share experiences and perspectives like this.
