Graduation cords for clubs from previous years?

Are graduation cords from clubs given for previous years?

As the head of a club that awards cords to its members, I’m graduating this semester. One of my mentors, who was a significant part of the club during her time, is also part of my graduating class. However, she wasn’t able to participate this year due to other commitments.

I’d like to present her with a cord because her impact on the club was substantial. Do you think it would be strange to give her one even though she wasn’t actively involved during her senior year?

  1. It’s great that you want to recognize your mentor’s contributions to the club! Offering her a cord, especially since she had such a positive impact on your experience, is a thoughtful gesture. Many clubs recognize members for their past involvement, and her influence on the club’s culture and success shouldn’t be overlooked just because she wasn’t able to participate this year.

You could also consider explaining the reasoning behind your decision when handing her the cord—emphasizing how much her mentorship meant to you and the club as a whole. This adds a personal touch and shows that the acknowledgment is rooted in appreciation rather than strict adherence to current membership rules. Ultimately, if it feels right to you, go for it!
