How many of you recognize the issues within our education system? I’m curious to know how many of you understand the true purpose of school, as it appears that many align with the views of social Darwinists who shape our current system. I’m sure there are some reform-minded individuals among you who appreciate the work of thinkers like John Holt and John Taylor Gatto. Are there any books on education reform that you would recommend? I’ve recently read “Weapons of Mass Instruction” and a bit of “How Children Fail.”

The emphasis on standardized testing and rote memorization often overshadows the real purpose of school, which should be to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
I can understand the frustrations with the influence of social Darwinism in education, as it can lead to a system that prioritizes competition over collaboration and individual growth. Reformers like John Holt and John Taylor Gatto have indeed sparked valuable discussions about the need for a more human-centered approach to education.
