Is my teacher weird?

Is my teacher abnormal?
My high school English teacher is definitely an unusual character. I’ve had my fair share of eccentric teachers, but she really stands out. What makes her so odd are the frequent sexual comments she makes almost every day. I’ve chatted with other students from different classes, and they’ve noticed her remarks too.

For instance, during a lesson with sticky notes, she jokingly mentioned catching her students passing notes about what they would do with the principal. To our surprise, she then called our former principal “hot” and expressed that she wished she weren’t married so she could be with him. On another occasion, while attempting to make a crochet animal for another teacher, she remarked that it resembled male genitalia.

She often shares stories about her dating history and how she married young. Additionally, she frequently discusses with the teacher’s aide how she sees students making out in the corners and how strange she finds it. This kind of commentary happens almost daily.

There are plenty more moments like this, so I’m curious: am I overreacting, or would you also find this unsettling? I’d love to hear about any quirky teachers you’ve encountered too!

  1. It definitely sounds like your teacher’s comments are crossing a line. While some light-hearted or relatable humor can make a classroom feel more comfortable, making sexual comments and discussing personal dating life in such a way can make students feel uncomfortable. It’s important for teachers to maintain a professional environment, and remarks like the ones you’ve mentioned can easily blur that line.

If you and your classmates feel uncomfortable, it might be worth bringing it up to a trusted adult or a school counselor. They can help address the situation appropriately. It’s always better to ensure your learning environment feels safe and respectful for everyone.

As for weird teachers, I’ve heard of some who were eccentric in their teaching styles but kept things appropriate. It’s definitely a fine line, and it sounds like your teacher might be leaning more towards the inappropriate side. Trust your instincts on this one!
