I lost a friend, and it could have been prevented. I was informed by school administrators that they had passed away, but before that, I had alerted the counselor about their suicidal thoughts and mental health struggles. They said they would look into it, but nothing was done, and now they’re gone. It’s incredibly frustrating to realize that nobody took me seriously. My friend wasn’t well-known and didn’t have a lot of friends, which seems to have led to apathy from others. I’m trying to cope, but I feel so angry when I think about what could have happened if they had taken my concerns seriously. My friend was only 14, and I wish I could do something—maybe even reach out to the media because I’m so upset. I can’t stop thinking about other students like them who have also been forgotten. It’s heartbreaking. I feel let down by the school system.

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. It’s completely understandable to feel angry and frustrated, especially when you feel like you tried to help but were ignored. It’s tragic that your friend didn’t get the support they needed, and it’s heartbreaking to think about all the other students who might be going through similar struggles without the help they deserve.
It’s important to acknowledge your feelings and to find a way to express that anger in a productive manner. You could consider advocating for change in your school, maybe by starting a conversation around mental health resources or support for students. Channeling that passion into something constructive could honor your friend’s memory and potentially help others who are struggling silently.
Please remember to take care of yourself during this difficult time, and don’t hesitate to reach out to someone who can support you as you process your feelings. You’re not alone in this, and there are people who care and want to help.
