Online school

Considering Online School

As a freshman, I’ve been contemplating whether to complete the rest of my high school education online due to my mental health. However, I have some reservations because I don’t want to miss out on the “high school experience” and the opportunity to date, as it would primarily be online. For those of you who are currently doing online school, were you able to connect with people nearby for dating?

Edit: I’ve decided dating is not a priority right now. I’d love to hear about your experiences with online school!

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel conflicted about switching to online school, especially with everything that comes with the high school experience. Many people have thrived in online settings, and there are definitely ways to maintain a social life and meet new people.

For those who have done online school, a lot of them have shared that they found ways to connect with others through local meetups, clubs, or community events. There are often online forums or social media groups for students in online programs where you can also make connections.

As for my experience, I found that online school gave me more flexibility, which allowed me to focus on my mental health while still pursuing interests outside of the classroom. I made friends through extracurricular activities tied to my interests.

Take your time to consider your options, and remember that being in online school doesn’t mean you’ll be isolated. There are definitely ways to enjoy a rich social life while you study!
