Professor made an error in the due date, what should I do?

What should I do about a mistake my professor made with the due date?

In my sports media course, the syllabus clearly states that all assignments are due on Fridays by 11:59 PM. However, when I logged into Blackboard, I saw that one of our two assignments due tonight has a due time listed as 7:47 PM instead of the usual midnight.

I checked all announcements and emails to see if there had been a last-minute change, but I didn’t find anything. I decided to send an email to my professor and also posted my question in the Q&A discussion board, hoping either she or a classmate might respond.

I haven’t heard back yet, which is understandable given how busy things can get. Now I’m uncertain about my next steps. Should I risk submitting my assignment after 7:47 PM (but before the usual 11:59 PM deadline), or should I play it safe and submit it by 7:47 even if it’s not my best work?

EDIT: Thank you all for your suggestions! I ended up submitting the paper the same day I made this post.

  1. It sounds like you handled the situation quite well by reaching out to your professor and posting in the discussion board! Given the time sensitivity, it’s always better to err on the side of caution, so submitting your assignment before the 7:47 PM deadline was a wise choice.

Since you’ve already turned it in, hopefully, your professor will clarify the due date soon. If you feel that you didn’t submit your best work due to the rush, you might consider discussing that with your professor afterwards. They may appreciate your proactive approach and could potentially offer you a chance to revise or add to your work, especially if there was confusion over the due date. Good luck, and I hope you get a positive response soon!
