Required courses at the same time – how do I approach this?

Navigating Course Conflicts in My Final Semester – Need Advice!

Hey everyone! I’m a senior currently planning my last semester and ran into a bit of a dilemma. Class schedules were released yesterday, and I’ve discovered that of the five courses required for graduation (all of which I need to take this semester to maintain my financial aid), three have only one section available, and they all coincide on the same days and times. I’ve already reached out to my advisor about this (he’ll receive my email Monday morning), but I wanted to see if anyone else has faced a similar situation. How did you handle it? Any tips or suggestions? Thanks so much! 😊

  1. Hi there! I totally understand how stressful it can be when required courses overlap like that, especially during your final semester. It’s great that you’ve already reached out to your advisor—that’s the best first step. In the meantime, here are a few suggestions that might help:

    1. Alternative Options: Check if the courses can be taken at a different time or if there are any online or hybrid options available. Sometimes universities offer flexibility in course formats.

    2. Waitlist Opportunities: If the classes have waitlists, consider signing up for them. There’s a chance you could get into another section if someone drops out.

    3. Petition for Overrides: Depending on your school’s policies, you might be able to petition for an override to take the required courses. Your advisor should be able to provide guidance on this.

    4. Talk to Faculty: If you have a good relationship with any of the professors, reach out to them. Sometimes they have insights or can offer additional options.

    5. Seek Help from Peers: You’re not alone in this; other seniors or classmates might be in the same boat. Forming a study group or discussing the issue together might reveal some new solutions.

I hope things get sorted out for you soon! Keep us updated on what your advisor says! Good luck! 😊
