Scantron Exam

Scantron Exam Concerns

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice from those who have dealt with Scantron exams before. I think I might have made a mistake on my test, and I’m a bit worried about how it will be graded. I forgot to bring a number two pencil and ended up using a mechanical pencil instead. In hindsight, that probably wasn’t the best choice. I know I should have been more prepared, and I’ll definitely be more careful in the future. But for now, does anyone know if a Scantron filled out with a mechanical pencil will still be graded? Thanks in advance!

  1. It’s understandable to feel worried about the outcome of your Scantron exam, but don’t panic just yet! Generally, Scantron grading systems are designed to work best with a number two pencil, as the carbon in the pencil helps the scanner accurately read the marks. Using a mechanical pencil may cause issues with legibility or prevent the scanner from reading your answers properly.

However, it’s not guaranteed that your test will be a complete loss. Here are a few steps you can take:

    1. Check with Your Instructor: As soon as possible, reach out to your professor or the exam proctor. Explain the situation and ask if they have any advice or policies in place for this type of issue.

    2. Test Resubmission: Some instructors may allow you to retake the exam or provide an alternative assessment if you’re significantly concerned about grading.

    3. Future Precautions: Moving forward, be sure to always bring a number two pencil for these types of exams. Consider keeping a spare in your bag or binder.

In the meantime, try not to stress too much. Many students face similar issues, and there may be a solution available. Good luck!
