Should I tell my school counselor about my suicidal thoughts?

Should I Talk to My School Counselor About My Suicidal Thoughts?

I’m a senior in my final semester of high school, and I’m really struggling. I’ve faced debilitating anxiety and depressive episodes since I first started high school, and despite telling my family repeatedly, I haven’t received the support I need—just casual conversations without any real help. I don’t even have a diagnosis.

In the past, I resorted to self-harm in hopes of getting their attention and support, but that only led to anger and misunderstanding from them.

I’m completely exhausted by this situation. With just two months left until graduation, life feels just as unbearable as it did on my first day of high school over three years ago. I’m considering whether it would make sense to share my suicidal thoughts with my school counselor, a mental health professional, just to see if that might lead to some real help.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It’s really important that you talk to someone who can help you, and a school counselor can be a great step toward getting the support you need. They are trained to handle these situations and can provide guidance and resources. Your feelings matter, and you deserve to be heard and to get the appropriate help. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them—it’s a brave step to take, and it might lead you to the support you’ve been searching for. Remember, you’re not alone in this, and there are people who want to help you.
