Why am I feeling homesick even though I’m still a hs senior??

Why am I feeling so homesick even though I’m still a high school senior?

Honestly, I’ve been crying for almost an hour over it. I might be heading to Miami for school, which is quite a distance from where I currently live—definitely more than an hour away. Even though I don’t have the best relationship with my mom, I know I’ll miss her. And I’ll really miss my big-headed brother!

I’ve always wanted to be independent from them, but now I’m feeling anxious and scared. I’m not very outgoing, so I worry about making friends on my own while living away (hopefully with a roommate). Every time I think about it, I get really emotional.

  1. It’s completely normal to feel homesick, especially as you approach such a big transition in your life. Moving away from home and starting this new chapter can be both exciting and scary, and it’s okay to have mixed feelings about it.

It sounds like you have a lot of love for your family, even if things haven’t always been perfect. It’s natural to feel a sense of loss when you think about leaving them behind, even if you’ve been wanting some independence. Remember that these emotions are part of the journey, and it’s okay to cry and let it all out.

When it comes to making friends, know that you’re not alone in feeling anxious about it. Many people in your situation find it difficult at first, but being open to new experiences and joining groups or clubs can help you connect with others. You might be surprised at how quickly you can form new friendships, especially with a roommate by your side.

Take your time to process these feelings, and be kind to yourself. It’s a big change, but it can also be a wonderful opportunity for growth. You’ve got this, and it’s okay to feel a little scared. Just remember to keep looking forward to the new experiences waiting for you!
