Exploring the Impact of Single-Gender Spaces on Gender Diversity Inclusion: A Student’s Research Initiative
As a Year 12 student, I am currently undertaking a major research project for my Society and Culture class, focusing on the increasing polarization of homosocial environments and their influence on the inclusion of gender-diverse individuals. This topic aims to shed light on how single-gender spaces — such as sports teams, youth groups, scouting organizations, religious groups, and similar settings — impact the participation and acceptance of gender-diverse people.
To deepen understanding and gather meaningful insights, I have developed a short survey accessible to individuals from all backgrounds and demographics. The survey is completely anonymous; it collects no personal identifiers like names or emails. Instead, it asks about gender identity, country of residence, and age group to better analyze the data.
I am reaching out to the community in the hope that others who share an interest in this subject or are involved in single-gender groups might participate. Your responses will be invaluable, especially for gender-diverse and transgender individuals, as I currently have a limited number of replies.
Additionally, I am eager to support others working on similar projects. If you’re conducting your own research or need advice related to high school surveys or choosing research topics within social sciences, I would be happy to assist. I love exploring these subjects and have completed my course in less than a month, so I am enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and experiences.
Your participation and insights are greatly appreciated. Together, we can contribute to a better understanding of how spaces designed around gender influence inclusivity and diversity.
