Navigating Dorm Life as a Junior Living Among Underclassmen
As the upcoming academic year approaches, I wanted to share my current living situation in case others are facing similar circumstances. This fall, I will be a junior at my college, but the campus predominantly houses freshmen.
To make the most of my resources, I decided to live on campus since my scholarships cover a significant portion of housing costs. While I would pay slightly more off-campus, staying in the dorms turned out to be more financially feasible overall. The decision was also influenced by convenience and the campus community experience.
Sharing a dorm room with a freshman has been an interesting experience so far. I’ve been in touch with my roommate, and things seem to be smooth sailing. I understand that some freshmen might find it a bit unusual to share their space with an upperclassman, but I remain hopeful that our roommate dynamic will be positive.
For those who might find themselves in a similar situation—living among underclassmen as an upperclassman—I hope this post provides some reassurance. It can be comforting to know that others are out there sharing similar experiences, especially late at night when we often seek stories that resonate with our circumstances.
Additionally, I am currently on the waitlist for a Resident Assistant position. It’s a bit nerve-wracking since we’re well into summer, and my chances are about 25%, but I remain hopeful. If you could all send some good vibes my way, I’d truly appreciate it!
Thanks for reading, and here’s to a great year ahead for all of us in unique housing situations!
