Title: Navigating the Nostalgia of College Summer Break: When the Empty Days Feel Heavy

As summer unfolds, many students find themselves longing for the familiar rhythm of college life, even if it might seem unusual to outsiders. This season marks my first extended break from school, and I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia washing over me.

Since early May, I’ve been enjoying the freedom that comes with a break from academics—no classes, no assignments, just open days. Yet, this lack of structure has started to affect my mental well-being. Transitioning from a hectic schedule—pursuing an 18-credit course load—to complete leisure has been more disorienting than I anticipated. Each year, this period tends to evoke seasonal blues, but this time, the feelings seem amplified.

The sweltering weather and the solitude of being away from campus intensify these emotions. I’m craving engagement, a sense of routine, something to fill the hours meaningfully. While I cherish time with my family, I deeply miss my friends and the community I left behind. I yearn for my school of music, the camaraderie of my fraternity brothers, and the exhilarating energy of Saturday night football games or cheering loudly in the stands at basketball matches.

College has become more than just an educational experience; it has become my second home, a place where I felt truly seen and connected. As I count down the remaining month before classes resume, I want to make the most of this time. Yet, I can’t shake the longing for the vibrant life I left behind.

If anyone else resonates with this sentiment, know you’re not alone. Navigating these wistful feelings is part of the journey, and finding small ways to reconnect with those passions can help. Remember, this transient lull is just a chapter before new adventures begin again.
