Celebrating Milestones and Cherished Friendships: A Reflection on Graduation

Graduating from university is a significant milestone that marks the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and personal growth. Reflecting on this journey brings back a wealth of memories, achievements, and the invaluable relationships formed along the way.

My academic journey began three years ago when I graduated with a degree in Banking and Finance. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience, made even more meaningful by the presence of two exceptional friends—Michael and Joanna—who stood by my side throughout. Out of the three of us, I was the only one to graduate with a first-class honors degree, a feat I attribute in large part to their unwavering support and encouragement.

Michael, in particular, was a pillar of resilience and positivity. His hardworking nature, combined with his intelligence and kindness, motivated me to strive harder towards my goals. He was the kind of person whose support seemed to energize everyone around him, pushing us to reach our full potential. Despite initial impressions based on his samba shoes, which initially led us to think he was a spoiled rich kid, Michael proved to be one of the most genuine and dependable friends I’ve ever had.

Joanna brought a different kind of inspiration to our circle. Her charisma and moral uprightness drew people toward her naturally—an aura of excellence that seemed to be rooted in her upbringing. From our first conversation in freshman year, we became close friends, sharing not just academic insights but life lessons as well. Her discipline and moral compass helped sharpen my perspective, making me a better student and person.

Our final exams were a testament to our collective dedication. We engaged in intensive group studies, question-and-answer sessions, and countless sleepless nights, all united by a shared determination to succeed. We even found moments to pray together, fueling our confidence that we would excel. When we finally completed our last paper, an overwhelming sense of achievement washed over us. We held a mixture of excitement and anticipation for the results that would soon reveal our hard work’s fruits.

When the results were released three weeks later, I was proud to discover that I was the only one among us to graduate with a first-class honors degree—the highest possible accolade. Michael and Joanna earned solid 2:1s, and I was initially hesitant to share my results, feeling that my success was partly due to their influence and support. However, their reaction surprised me: they visited me with a thoughtful congratulatory gift from Alibaba even before I had a chance to share my news. Their genuine happiness for my achievement exemplifies the strength of our friendship.

Today, reflecting on that chapter of our lives, I am grateful for the blessings of these incredible friends. Our journeys since graduation have been inspiring, and witnessing each other’s growth fills me with pride. Achievements like these are not just about academic success—they are about the relationships, resilience, and shared experiences that truly define our journeys.

In closing, I encourage everyone to cherish the friends who stand by you through thick and thin. As we celebrate milestones like graduation, remember that success is sweeter when shared with those who truly support and uplift us.
